Salisbury School Student Center
The Salisbury School’s student center serves as sort of a family room for the more than 300 boarding and day students who attend this college preparatory school in northwestern Connecticut. In June, 2017, while construction was taking place on our design for the new quad, the Salisbury School approached us to overhaul the existing 1970s structure in order to update and expand the facility. Our design prioritized a traditional farmhouse aesthetic that feels right at home in rural Litchfield County while adding plenty of modern amenities. Natural light comes from a new rooftop clerestory, while a covered porch on the building’s upper level and an open deck on the lower level create an indoor-outdoor environment for students and faculty to enjoy. New facilities like updated restrooms and an expanded kitchen for the snack bar were integrated into an addition at the south end of the building. Today the student center is the central hub of social life on the hilltop for Salisbury students
